History

Devon derives its name from Dumnonia that was the home of the Dumnonii Brittonic Celts, also called ``Deep Valley Dwellers``, during the British Iron Age, Roman Britain, and the early Middle Ages. The Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain resulted in the partial assimilation of Dumnonia into the Kingdom of Wessex during the 8th and 9th centuries.
